DICTATOR

Rock stars, motivational speakers, entrepreneurs, self-help teachers, dictators ---- there are all kinds of leadership models out there today.  You'd be hard-pressed to find a simple servant.

We sometimes seem embarrassingly out of step when we compare our practices with the views of Jesus on what it means to be a leader.

Jesus exemplified serving, sacrifice and selflessness.  I know those aren't the qualities the company leaders of most Forbes 500 companies are known for, but they're what Jesus stood for.

'Jesus was about character, not technique or style.'

He was about character, not technique or style.

Who are your models for leadership?  Be careful not to get caught up with looks or appeal or charisma even.  The command of Christ for leadership is to 'humble yourself and live a life of servanthood, sacrifice and selflessness.'

And be blessed.

In my immediate life, I think you are a great leader. I don't mean this in a mean way, but I don't respect just anyone in that way. I look at the qualities a person exhibits and base my opinion on that.

I have had two store managers that I admired greatly. They were real people-person's. They made work fun and productive and as if you would do anything for them. It truly was a pleasure to go to work.

From all accounts, my current store manager may be the same way. I have been there for a couple of weeks and he remembers my name when I see him.

Other more well-known people I admire so much are Mother Teresa and Ghandi. They both were amazing servants and changed the world in their own ways. Mother Teresa had a huge heart for the hurting and needy. I own the movie Ghandi and he was an inspiration. Such an amazing man. He changed the world forever.

Along the same vein, there are two more that I think were incredible servants. One is Martin Luther. He brought the excesses of the Catholic Church to light in his day and went on to found the Lutheran Church. He was so courageous.

The other was Joan of Arc. She was a very humble servant, as well. She was incredibly brave and fought for her country, when only men had. She died by being bound and burned at the stake for heresy.

I own both of the movies, Luther and Joan of Arc. I highly recommend them. Amazing...
