APPLE

It's probably not that important but it wasn't an apple that felled Adam and Eve.  It's just referred to as fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Maybe it was an apple; likely not.

Not only that, most people think the animals went on the ark 'two by two.'  No.  All clean animals entered in groups of seven and unclean in groups of two.  Since there were more clean than unclean animals, probably the majority of creatures entering the ark went in by sevens.

A lot of people think the Immaculate Conception refers to Jesus, but that's really about Mary.  Most Christians believe all people are conceived with original sin, but that Jesus wasn't.  But this teaching tells that Mary also was conceived without sin, hence The Immaculate Conception.

It's become fairly common knowledge by now, but 'three kings' are never referred to in the Bible.  Three gifts, sure.  Three kings, no.

I hate to keep popping balloons, but we are never told that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute either.  Full of demons, OK - prostitute, not necessarily.

Also, 'prodigal' doesn't have any reference to leaving or returning, but to 'wasteful spending.'

Just food for thought.

And be blessed.

Wow...this is so interesting! How do you learn these things? I don't blame Adam and Eve for sinning. I know I would have done the same thing. The old saying "curiosity killed the cat." Literally.

Do you mean Mary's parents were married? So, it wasn't a sin? I'm not sure what you mean.

Is Mary Magdalene the woman who committed adultery? That always confused me.

I am disappointed about the Prodigal Son. I like to imagine his father rushing to meet him, because he was gone away.

Mary and Joseph weren't married when Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

The father did rush to meet his son, but PRODIGAL still means wasted spending.l

The Christian church makes mention of Jesus and all his miracles. However, why is there is never any mention of Mary ?

Not sure what you mean. We're a "Christian" church. We speak about Mary now and then, but nobody rises to the level of Jesus, not even Mary.

Newer "versions" of the Bible have done this to the Church. People are confused and deceived. The quoting of scripture is going out the door and our brothers and sisters are left with a weak, readers digest "version" that can't reveal the Power of God. Words are added and subtracted to the latest easy-to-read book. KJV for me..

I know what you mean. I think some of these things in the blog post are not misunderstood even in the KJV though. They are common misconceptions where the Bible does not give full details. I agree that some newer versions fill in gaps that aren't there.

KJV can be difficult for some folks. I have more often these days leaned toward the NLT or the ESV - both great translations.

Blessings on your reading.

After visiting a Catholic church in Chicago with a friend, I noticed that in their service they speak of both Mary and Jesus.

Yes, the Catholics do hold Mary to a higher standard than others in the Bible - in some cases, perhaps elevating her even above Jesus. We certainly should give honor to the mother of Jesus, but she is not worthy to be worshipped. Only Jesus.

I was wondering about when you said that Mary was born without sin, too. I know Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. But I wondered if Mary was, too.

Also, Is Mary Magdalene the woman who committed adultery? That always confused me.

What does 'clean animals mean'?

I didn't say Mary was born without sin, only that that is the concept described by the term Immaculate Conception. Mary was not sinless, only Jeaus. We do not know definitively that Magdalene was a prostitute. We know what the Bible tells us ... That she at one point had some demons.

Who is the Mary that poured perfume on Jesus' feet and wiped them with her hair? Was that Mary...the sister of Martha? There are so many Mary's it is hard to see who it is in different cicumstances.

It was not Mary Magdalene who wiped Jesus' feet with her hair. John 12 tells us that was Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus. I agree there are a lot of Marys.
