BALANCE

It isn't all that uncommon for someone to stop me on a Sunday morning and express the need for us to be 'balanced' in our teaching from the stage.

Grace is fine, PK, what about truth?
Truth is great, PK, where's the grace?

Evangelism is necessary, PK, what about discipleship?
So happy about all those salvations, PK, what about baptisms?

Faith is great, PK, what about works?
Love that New Testament passage, PK, what about the Old Testament?

Let's be balanced.  Since the Bible talks about both A & B, let's be sure both A & B are talked about equally.

I don't think so.

A. Stanley said, 'All the Bible is inspired, but not all the Bible is equally applicable.'

The truth is that the dominant message of the Bible is that God loves you ... that Jesus gave His life so you could be forgiven.  What we do as Christ-followers is critical but it isn't more important than what Jesus has done for us.

'The dominant message of the Bible is that God loves you.'

M. Luther said, 'Remove Christ from the Scriptures and there's nothing left.'

The Bible is about what Christ, the Forgiver has done for us, not on your work as the forgiven.

I used to say the Bible was a book about you.  I was wrong.  It's a book about Jesus.  Every page is about Him.

Let's forget about being balanced.

And be blessed.

Some people seem to be looking for a problem in any teaching. Maybe they don't realize that there is a thesis, a central point, and that it doesn't need a lot of unrelated ideas clouding it. If every possible point were covered, who would understand the purpose of the sermon? It would become a collection of many ideas. Pointing out perceived shortcomings is easier than being analytical.

True. I didn't mean to highlight the complaints here, but the supremacy of the love and grace of God for us all.

I love M. Luther's statement. Salvation through Jesus is the point of the Bible. O. Testament points to it. N. Testament Proves it. Today we live and our future secure as a result of it. Balance is important in how we live and manage our time. When it comes to preaching in present times ALL roads should lead to Jesus. Ripe is the Harvest...
