I've always loved that comment you quoted by Abraham Lincoln. It reminds me of a book, for which I never liked the title: "God is my copilot". It sounds as though he thinks God is his "Little helper". It seems to be a trait of younger Christians to put God in the place of being my helper, for my path. Instead, perhaps a better way to look at this would be that God is the pilot, and we live our life according to HIS purpose for us.
