TRAFFIC

So - on the way home from the office this week, I experienced:

- Two guys shaking their fists at one another inside their cars on 75th Street.

- A guy going at least 75 on 50 mph Green Bay Road.

- A semi trying to navigate the Chili's parking lot full of cars.

- A person who slalomed with the traffic cones on Hwy 50.

- Two accidents.

What's going on?

All I can say is this graph pretty much explains it:

And be blessed.

I truly think that there is something to the notion that people are more aggressive behind the wheel than in a typical day, in person. I admit, I can be guilty of that somewhat.

The two instances that come to mind are...when someone in front of me is going slower than the speed limit. Frankly, it drives me nuts. I look for any opportunity to pass them as soon as possible. I regularly go five miles over the speed limit. Not enough to really get a ticket, but it gets me where I am going.

The other situation is when I do try to pass and, suddenly, they find their gas pedal and speed up, so I can't go around them. Ugh! That seems perfectly ridiculous to me. Why not go the speed limit in the first place??

I was the victim of road rage once many years ago. I was turning right at a stop sign. There was a light blue pick-up truck that I swear I never saw. He blended in with the sky and I wasn't as vigilant as I should have been. Well, he passed me and pulled right in front of me and put on his brakes, so I had to slam on my brakes. The thing is, he clipped the front of my car and kept on going. I was pretty upset and so I followed him. I kept honking my horn to get him to stop. He DID hit my car, after all. Well, he got all the way to his apt. He was furious and he got out and came swearing and kicking my tires. I went home, called the police and gave his license plate number. We went to court and he had to pay restitution. No insurance... On my end, lesson learned. Be a DEFENSIVE driver. Pay attention and realize that these are big, powerful and heavy machines. The impact in test-driving demonstrations show how dangerous it can be. I haven't been involved in a car accident since then.

One thing that does help me to be in the right frame of mind is that I listen to Christian talk-radio most of the time in my car. It is far more beneficial than loud, pounding music. I highly recommend it! :)
