ANDREA

It was one of the most exciting days in the history of Journey Church, as more people than we ever imagined walked into the waters of baptism at Lake Andrea (see July 28, 2014 post).

Here it is - in the flesh . . .

Resounding Boom.

And be blessed.

PK, sometimes, I bring up issues in our world currently. It's not that I am eager to 'stir the pot', but some of these issues are very important and would be the things that Jesus cared about and died for.

I have been watching coverage from Ferguson, MO this past week, following the killing of Mike Brown. Some of the scenes resembled a war-torn country. Militarized police forces, tear-gas, rubber bullets, looting, violence...and on and on. The black community is standing up and saying that this is enough. We have come so far since the 60's, but our society is still not equal for people of color (black and brown). The protest is far bigger than a death of an unarmed teenager. It is systematic.

Anyway, I work with a very diverse population. I can assure you, the vast majority are no different than you and me...99% of my customers are very nice. The 1% cover all races and socio-economic classes.

A part of me wishes I could talk openly with my co-workers about this. To hear their feelings and frustrations and experiences. These are my friends at work...not some faces on the tv screen. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. This is just life all the way thru.

Anyway, in reading some of the articles on this situation, I came across a quote:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Take the time to seek justice, equality and love for each other. Don't just be an observer to life. If you are a Christ-follower, then show His heart.
