FINANCIAL PEACE

Our entire staff just finished 13 weeks of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace course. It's really some amazing, liberating, life changing information if you apply even half of it.  It is offered @ KFA (www.kenoshafirst.com and www.daveramsey.com) on an ongoing basis.  I cannot recommend it to you highly enough.

And be blessed.

I am in the midst of it and it is one of the best things I have ever taken, truly! He is so common sense and smart and amazing! So many great ideas to set yourself up financially.

The most life-changing book outside of the Bible? The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

I'm not quite as enthusiastic about Dave Ramsey's teachings. Although they are helpful to those who are in financial trouble and not very savvy when it comes to basic household finances, some of his teachings are a hindrance to those more knowledgable. When you read his books and/or listen to him speak, really THINK about what he's saying. If you do, you'll realize some of the reasons he gives for certain behaviors make no sense at all. For instance, he says that a mugger doesn't have x-ray vision, so it doesn't matter if you're carrying cash or a credit card, the mugger doesn't know which you have. Ok. But when you get mugged, if you have cash, the cash is gone forever. If you have a credit card, you've lost nothing. Just one of many, many examples.

LOL.
NICE.
I haven't heard anyone but you say so far that Dave Ramsey's teaching is for those in financial trouble and not savvy otherwise. I couldn't disgree more with that assessment.

His approach is occasionally verbally unorthodox -- and he might have a few off-the-wall statements, but all-in-all, the advice could not be more sound, in my opinion.

AND ... if you're carrying a credit card and a thief steals it, then you have tremendous hassle cancelling and restoring and getting new cards. If you have STEP #1 of his program completed, then you have $1,000 in emergency funds set aside, not to mention STEP #4, which is 3-6 months of income set aside. So if you have a few dollars stolen by a thief, you wouldn't really even miss it. And if you're carrying a bucket full of money in your pocket out on the street, you're just a moron.

HAHA.
Just kidding. Kind of.

P.S. -- I didn't mean YOU were a moron; just that that situation would be maybe moron(ic). LOL.

No offense intended, anonymous.

Since I have been blessed to work, at KFA for the past several years doing graphic design, I was given the opportunity to go thru this class along with a group of great leaders. Tho I had taken it before, I felt it was even better this second time thru. Dave Ramsey has a God-given passion to bring a God-given message. He is also blessed with a graciously humble and humorous heart! It's very easy to swallow, so don't worry...if you decide to take the class when it comes up, you won't have to check your brains at the door. It's just some really good information that you will find encouraging no matter where you are at as far as money goes. Personally, I did not feel the slightest bit embarassed or imposed upon in any way. Dave Ramsey is great because he speaks from the vantage point of one who has MADE IT THRU some serious financial struggles! The wisdom he has found is priceless! He is telling the truth about some vital things that he learned thru research AND experience that I am thankful to have had the chance to hear. I would love to get a copy of the DVD's or even go thru it again...to be sure it sticks to that other side of my brain! I love Dave Ramsey! Mary Sorenson

Michael & I went throught the first FPU class at KFA. I highly recommend it for EVERYONE! It has been extremely freeing for us. It makes the possibility of losing a job much easier to face when you have no debt and an emergency fund. It also makes the current economy much easier to weather!
